BURLINGTON, ON.

Early, early, early results show all the members of city council being returned.

Dennison was leading Gottlob by more than 30%; Lancaster was leading Bentivegna by more than 100 votes; Mayor Goldring was ahead of Rusin by more than a country mile – with Anne Marsden doing better than Rusin.

The Southeast Asian community was pretty close to a no show situation and Vanessa Warren was doing very poorly.

Marianne Meed Ward was walking all over Kelly Arnott.

We may be eating some crow later this evening

  • Could someone in Burlington answer this question?

When Burlington was ranked FIRST among the small cities in Canada ???

Was it because of Eligible Voter Indifference AT THIRTY-FOUR PER CENT???

Thanks to ALL THE CANDIDATES WHO STOOD FOR ELECTION.

I hope you will try again … You brought RICHNESS to the campaign.

Thanks Pepper, for remaining at the tiller.

Most of the results were pretty much as expected. No surprises in Wards 1, 2, or 3. In Wards 4 and 5, Dennison and Sharman held onto their seats afterall, and quite convincingly at that. In Ward 6, the watered down vote appears to have worked in Lancaster’s favour, so despite the low level of support, it was still enough to squeak through for the win.

The biggest shock of the night, in my opinion anyway, is the landslide victory by Mayor Goldring. I think we all knew Goldring was a shoe-in for the win, but to see that Peter Rusin did not garner more votes, and in fact placed below Marsden, well that’s something I didn’t see coming. Biggest story of the night by far.

Agree or disagree, the people have spoken. Congratulations to the Mayor and Councillors, all of whom are returning for another term. Time to hit the ground running, and fix what’s broken in this city. Your next 4 years starts……. now.

The only losers are the residents of Burlington. Four more years of poor decisions.

You have that many candidates like you have in Ward 6, The incumbent wins every time.

Four more years of the same old same old.

And look at the voter turn-out. Pathetic. None of those people have the right to complain about the results or consequences down the road. Electronic voting and people are still too indifferent to vote. Sad.
