Gareth Williams announces he will be a candidate for the Ward 3 seat that will not have an incumbent in the race.

Gareth Williams has made it official – his hat is in the race for the ward 3 council seat.

A number of ward 3 residents have indicated that they will be running for that council seat.

Williams is the first to put up a web site and include a survey.

Williams is a Brant Hills resident and long-time community advocate. He chaired the city’s Sustainable Development Advisory Committee. He hopes to replace 30-year City Councillor John Taylor who announced his retirement earlier this week.

“Burlington will continue to grow and change over the coming years,” Williams said. “I want to be a strong voice for my community and ensure residents’ concerns are foremost when City Council makes decisions about Burlington’s future. That is why I’m running for Ward 3 this October”

“The coming years will be pivotal for our city, and Ward 3 deserves someone equally committed to building our community and working for families.”
Williams has also been an active volunteer with community advocacy groups such as BurlingtonGreen, BFAST, and the Halton Environmental Network. With over 10 years of local volunteer experience, Williams has built a strong awareness of the needs and concerns of local families and businesses.

He strongly believes that the community should grow in ways that bring positive benefits to residents and families.

Williams will officially register with the City of Burlington as a candidate on May 1st 2018.

A resident of Ward 3 since 2002, Williams completed a B.A. in Political Science at McMaster University, and his professional background is in Information Technology management. His full biography is available at https://GarethEWilliams.ca

Nothing on the positions Williams would take on any of the contentious issues facing the city.  Perhaps they will come when the race is real on May 1st.

In the meantime Williams might want to give a second thought to the web site he has in place; municipal election rules don’t allow for any spending until the election begins. Williams said “the website was designed by my wife using free tools and photos taken by her or myself. It is hosted on my own personal server at no incremental cost. I do not believe it is violation of the election spending rules.”
