I know this is kind of late, but all you GOT hardcore fans will probably understand my struggle!

So, it's been a year since we've witnessed the monumental events that took place in the "Red Wedding" and I certainly remain traumatized because of well, you know. Anyway, I was re-watching the episode last night (totally normal) and as a person who loves history,I can see a lot of resemblance between the politics in the game of thrones and in real-world history. The red wedding for example reminds me a lot of the bloodwedding in 16th century Paris. Catholic houses killed off the entire protestant nobility during a wedding that was supposed to happen to put aside differences.

So, I did some research and George R. R. Martin was in fact inspired by historical events such asthe War of the Roses. I don't know if this was ever mentioned but I also see a huge resemblance to the Trojan War and Roberts Rebellion. Lyanna was betrothed to Robert, and was kidnapped by (or ran away with) Prince Rhaegar, and Robert started a war to get her back (and I know there we're other reasons that he started the war, such as the murders of Rickon and Brandon Stark, but the "kidnapping" of Lyanna was a major reason as well).

It mirrors the events leading to the Trojan war; Helen was married to Menelaus, then ran away with (or was kidnapped by) Paris, and Menelaus started a war to get her back/get vengeance.I know this is really random but I get so passionate about Game of Thrones of course. It's also amazing how most of the shows we watch today are based off of real world history!
