'Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.' But a Burlington coyote is another matter.

BURLINGTON, ON

A Goodram Drive resident sent us the following:

I thought I would share this interesting letter that I received from Canada Post yesterday at our home on Goodram Drive in Burlington.

There are coyote dens in the ravine behind us explained Jeff Leedale and they are often seen in the front yards of homes.

I’ve attached a picture I took while putting my toddler into his car seat. I wish the City had the same level of concern that Canada Post has.

More than a Canada Post Driver wants to handle.

Let me get this straight. The coyotes pose a threat to a full grown letter carrier? Alright if you believe they do, then clearly it poses a threat to the adults and especially the children of the neighborhood. Not to mention pets that have been routinely killed by these coyotes. Why is this coyote still around.

As a former Letter Carrier, I can attest to the fact that some dog owners irresponsibly leave their dogs on the loose or a long enough lease that the mailbox cannot be safely reached. I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard “Oh he’s friendly – won’t bite”. People laugh but any dog could bite if startled. After all, they are protecting their territory. Coyotes are more skittish about humans. However, the more we develop, the more we encroach on their territory leaving them with fewer places to roam.

Hmmm… sounds a bit fishy that a letter received YESTERDAY is dated May 7 2018.
