  • Ward 2 Councillor still unresponsive but our tweet did result in a statement by the Mayor which we have responded to but (likely due to it being the weekend) is awaiting moderation.

Does the mayor believe that this notification is in tune with her commitment under Schedule B Section 11 of the Code of Good Governance and would the public have got any notification at all (other than a notice beside the tree) if we had not asked the Ward 2 Councillor, Lisa Kearns on twitter why the Chestnut Tree so many of us loved was axed.

Section 11 We will communicate information to the public in ways that are accurate, timely and in the interest of the Corporation.

Many members of the public would have liked an opportunity to have one last look at this beautiful tree that some would call part of our heritage – failure to keep this commitment denied that opportunity.

The Mayor acknowledges this is an important part of our heritage and in fact she used one of the chestnuts as a gift during her visit to Japan. Anne collected some of the chestnuts this year but doesn`t know where she put them!

  • Thanks for this Pepper I, Anne, just won a bet with Dave that we would still see such occasions despite the new cannibis legislation. The only time Anne ever saw a drug transaction taking place it was also in Burlington. It was under the Roly Bird Chestnut tree****. Reporting it at City Hall resulted in nothing being done. Dave on the other hand did not see any transactions but was there when police closed down numerous cannibis grow operations in Oakville. Unbelievable what was confiscated. His skills were the means of getting the warrant to enter and find the operation. Dave`s skills were also the means for getting back huge amounts of public monies stolen by these villains to grow the cannibis, that police were unable to return. HIs contribution to safety in Halton and getting back stolen public dollars that benefitted town of Oakville was his legislation compliance audit skills. Our advocacy team is based on both of us having these skills gained from our separate careers (his from federal gov and mine from provincial funded corporation).

**** Strangely enough we noticed very recently that this tree was axed by the city. Ward 2 Councillor Lisa Kearns remains unresponsive to our twitter request on the city`s transparency for reasons it was cut down at a time when many are still reeling from the adoption of the Tree By-law.

Don`t know how to include a picture but will send it by e-mail.
