What the Gazette has never been able to understand is this – is there something about the Burlington market that calls for a three cent surcharge?

Society promotes people to walk or cycle and GO Transit doesn’t allow bikes on the train during rush hours.

Perhaps the oil companies can accomplish what the city struggles with, getting people out of their cars and walking or cycling.
A doubling of the pump price might do it!
There is only one sure way of beating the price of gas, drive less.

I live near the most expensive gas in Burlington (Guelph Line at Mainway/Mountainside). The three big name stations there often price their gas over the Toronto published “price”, as if to declare “we, in uptown Burlington are the centre of the universe for price gouging, not downtown Toronto”. They still get lots of customers.

Don’t expect Hamilton prices anywhere in Burlington, even in westernmost Aldershot.

Not that far from the Esso sign and former petrol station that was at Wolfe Island.
As to prices; Burlington gives airs it is a properous City, Hamilton not so.
Hence we get nicked with those higher fuel prices. Being the best mid-sized city in Canada has a price.

  • I think it is truly unfortunate if the city will allow this location to be used for a gas station. Right between two other Esso stations ( Dundurn and Waterdown Road) Aldershot has an opportunity here to keep this area, nestled amongst the beauty of the Royal Botanical Gardens for something much more appropriate. A Farmers Market. An Artist Collective. Anything other than another oil big business conglomerate homage to the car. Please.

The City does not control what brand of station locates where, the only control is land use. It’s been zoned to permit a fuel station, among other uses for decades.
